Skelly Family
Have you looked at Pinterest. lately? Your favorite photographer's blog? Maybe even this blog? And you thought, "Wow. Those photos are awesome. I want photos just like that of my family [or my wedding, or my baby, etc. etc. etc.]." What does "that" mean to you? Does it mean more "candid" and less staged? More "interaction-y" [yes...that's a real word to us] and less "look at the camera and smile"? The answer is probably a resounding "YES!!!!". After-all, that has become the new "norm" in the photography world in the last several years. Out with the old [traditional] and in with the new [documentary]. Right? RIGHT??? Well, here's the thing. There's always more than meets the eye. Things are not always what they seem. There are always two sides to every story. For some people, the more obvious documentary/candid sessions ARE real for them. It is what tells their particular story the best. And remember....it's only THEIR story that matters, in their session. Just like it's only YOUR story that matters in your session. You don't always have to have the "perfectly" styled Pinterest-inspired session to tell your story. You don't necessarily have to go all over town to this location and that. Now, if that is what is authentic and real for you, rock on! Let's do it!!! But sometimes, your story is told best right there at home. Right there in your own backyard. Right there...looking at the camera and smiling. That is what is completely, totally, and PERFECTLY real for you. And that's all that matters. The Skelly parents have just sold their home. Their home of 35 years. The home where they raised their children, and have welcomed their grandchildren into the world. The kitchen where their daughters remember Mom spending so much time over the years, taking care of them and preparing delicious meals. The shed where Papa feels at home in his true "man-cave". This is the good stuff, folks....for them. Don't always let the glossy, "pretty" other people stuff fool you. Figure out your own glossy and pretty. And run with it....full speed ahead. Best wishes, Mom and Dad, in your next chapter. We are so glad you will never forget this one!
