Now, let’s get down to business and learn a little more about Sarah and Evan and the work they do!

What's one of your favorite spots/hangouts in KC?
The Farmhouse is a sentimental favorite! It was the location of one of the first weddings we planned, and has become our go-to spot for meetings or reconnecting after busy wedding weekends. We took our new baby there for our "first date" as a family of three the night I got out of the hospital. It has become our home away from home.

If you aren't working a wedding, what would we find you doing for fun?
These days, we are spending every minute we can with our 7 month old daughter, Greer. Travel has always been my passion. Evan and I jump at any opportunity to see the world!

How did you get into the wedding industry?
By accident, honestly. Shortly before Evan and I got married in 2013, we were approached about renting some of the vintage china I had curated for our wedding. We agreed, and word of mouth got out that we had a growing inventory of reasonably priced wedding decor. Word quickly spread about Vintage Rentals KC, and using only referrals and a little social media, we were able to pay for a good part of our wedding and a honeymoon to Switzerland that first year. I soon discovered that clients needed help with things such as design, planning and coordinating. Brides were asking for help and we have always taken the approach that, if we can, we will do anything to help their day be exactly what they have dreamed of.

Fast forward 5 years and now a vast majority of our business is wedding planning and coordination. This was how Savoir Faire Events was born.

How long have you been in business?
Vintage Rentals KC has been around since 2013. We recently started utilizing the Savoir Faire Events brand for our planning and coordination services.

Tell us a bit about the specific services you provide.
Savoir Faire provides wedding planning, coordination and event management services in the Kansas City area and beyond. We would never turn down the opportunity to travel! Evan has also been increasingly busy with custom venue draping work. He has spent several years providing dramatic draping in barn venues, urban downtown locations and for tented events. We found a niche he enjoys and, honestly, I am glad he is the one on the ladder, lift or climbing barn rafters!

Vintage Rentals KC continues to offer unique mix and match vintage plates, flatware and a curated selection of vintage furniture. I will always have a soft spot for fun vintage items!

What makes your business stand out from others in your industry?
I really believe it is our “can-do” approach to this business. We hear, more than anything, that we are the hardest working coordinators that wedding venues or other vendors have seen. We want to keep it that way!

When a client asks what we do I often tell them that each event is unique. It is our job, as a husband and wife coordination team, to determine what it is that they need the most on their big day. We work hard, through a series of meetings, to get to know our client and figure out how we can best serve them. Just as their family would. Just as the client would if they were hosting a group of friends at home. Of course, we have a checklist of must-do items for any wedding, but it is the extra work that makes us who we are. We want their guests to feel comfortable and the bride and groom to feel at ease. We will do everything we can to ensure that happens.

What's one of your favorite things about weddings?
I really love the quiet moments just before the bride walks down the aisle. There is a look in the bride's eyes when you tell her it's time to go. A palpable energy surrounds that moment. I live for that.

What's your favorite month or time of year for weddings?
May or June would have to be my favorite. Summer is just getting started, and so much is to be said for months of warm sunny days ahead.

Do you/are you willing to travel for destination weddings?
Absolutely!

Can you tell us about an unusual or super memorable wedding you've had?
This is a fun question! Over the years we have had so many memorable weddings. We have helped to plan surprise nuptials, had missing pastors, no show florists and even a runaway bride.

One of the most memorable days was an early November wedding where it was unseasonably cold. The bride was sad to see her dreams of an outdoor fall wedding ruined by near freezing temperatures. Once we knew the weather had taken a turn for the worse we made some last minute changes. We added cozy blanket stations for guests with some charming custom signage, a hot cocoa and cider display with lots of fun toppings, popcorn stations, and provided s'mores by the bonfire with mounds of vintage quilts. The day ended up much better than she had hoped, despite the challenges. Overcoming those challenges made that day so memorable for me.

What is your best advice for couples planning a wedding?
Make it personal! I love talking to clients about their interests and the special things they do together. Incorporating personal touches into an event is a real treat for guests and makes your day unique.
