Ashwini and Steven | Wedding at Hindu Temple and Cultural Center of Kansas City
After we shot our first Hindu wedding several years ago, we were hooked. They are the most vibrant and culturally rich events, and the way that they celebrate the coming together of two families is just so intensely beautiful.
Ashwini and Steven started their day very early in the morning at the Sheraton Overland Park. Once they were ready, everyone headed over to the Hindu Temple for the two hour ceremony. It begins with the Baraat [groom’s procession] and ends with the Aarti [the Priest blesses the newlywed couple]. Our favorite part is the Sapta Padi [Seven Steps]. The bride and groom hold each other’s hands and walk seven steps together, promising to each other the seven essentials of marriage:
To respect and honor each other
To share each other’s joy and sorrow
To trust and be loyal to each other
To cultivate appreciation for knowledge, values, sacrifice, and service
To confirm their vow of purity, love, family duties, and spiritual growth
To follow the principles of dharma [righteousness]
To nurture an eternal bond of friendship and love
After the ceremony and family photos were complete, we made our way to the gorgeous Cherry Hall for a traditional American wedding reception. It was a fabulous party!
Sheila and Steven, we are truly honored that you chose and invited us to be part of your day. It was such a joy to celebrate with you and capture all the parts of your story as you begin this next chapter. We wish you both a lifetime of love, health, wealth, and happiness!
